I drive by Capelton Road several times a day. For several months, if not more than a year, there have been no “Welcome to North Hatley Village” or “Goodbye North Hatley” signs when entering or leaving the village. Evidently, the sign that was in place was completely rusted and left a somewhat dilapidated image of the place. Not an ideal first or last impression.

I know there was some kind of “call for tenders, bids or the like” to make a new sign. I’m looking for the minutes that say so. Summer 2025 is upon us, but still no “Welcome-Welcome North Hatley Village” sign in place. The summer season officially kicks off next week with Bastille Day. Traffic will be at its peak. A sign would be great.

No doubt the welcome poster is on order and will arrive shortly. Delays are frequent. I certainly hope it was made by one of our local craftsmen using noble materials to ensure that it respects our vision of sustainable development.

On that note, I look forward to seeing the new “Welcome to North Hatley Village” sign(s).
