Okay, many will say that I am being harsh on the North Hatley municipal administration, but please allow me to mention this unfortunate situation. The address on the official documents of the Chief Electoral Officer leads to an office that is closed for renovations. This morning, I tried to reach the Chief Electoral Officer by phone using the number published on the official documents and got a fax line. The municipal secretary mentioned that she was well aware of this situation. That reassures me—I’m not crazy! At least, not about this situation! Also, all my searches for the address of North Hatley Town Hall lead me to 3125 Capelton Road, an office that is closed for renovations.

It is becoming difficult for citizens to contact the Chief Electoral Officer when the address and telephone number are incorrect. It should be noted that 38% of North Hatley’s population is aged 65 and over, for a total of 260 people. Furthermore, the document does not provide the Chief Electoral Officer’s email address.

And no announcement was made by the municipality to inform the public of these errors, even though the secretary stated that she was well aware of the situation. I believe it is important to contact the Chief Electoral Officer in the middle of an election. Of course, citizens will eventually reach our Chief Electoral Officer one way or another. Please note that if you search for “North Hatley Town Hall” on Google today, you will also be directed to 3125 Capelton Road. Also, please note that the Town Hall is closed between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. That’s exactly when I can finally get away from work to go to the Town Hall! My apologies for my sarcasm!

Making mistakes is part of the job. I often say that if you do nothing, you make no mistakes. However, when you do make a mistake, I believe you need to correct it quickly and not forget to inform the people concerned. In this case, the citizens of North Hatley.
