On July 15, 2024, I asked the Municipality of North Hatley for a copy of a public contract—a request that, in my opinion, was quite routine. When I did not receive a response, I had to refer the matter to the Commission d’accès à l’information (CAI), attend a hearing that was postponed at the request of the municipality’s lawyer, and then attend a second hearing that lasted about an hour. As they say, it was an obstacle course.
I would like to thank the municipality for finally sending the requested document at 5:03 p.m. on the day of the hearing before the Commission d’accès à l’information.
The result: months of effort, approximately $1,000 in fees on my part, legal fees for the municipality, the mobilization of senior management—and a lot of time wasted for a simple document.
